Bereavement & Grief

Bereavement can best be described as a reaction to the death of a loved one. Some individuals may show signs that are similar to depression. Included are; sadness, insomnia, loss of appetite, lack of energy and loss of social interest. In most cases these signs would be considered normal and not in need of professional help. A diagnosis of depression can be made if symptoms are still present after 2 months along with a deterioration of the individuals daily functioning. We also know that each individual grieves in their own way and for a different length of time. As there are different religions, cultures, and beliefs there are acceptable ways of grieving.
