Anxiety

Anxiety conditions are serious medical illnesses that affect approximately 19 million American adults. The best way to define anxiety is an overwhelming fear that is progressive unless treated. The most recognized forms of anxiety include: panic disorder, obsessive-compulsive disorder, post-traumatic stress disorder, social phobia, and generalized anxiety disorder. Treatment for anxiety disorders should be provided by a professionally trained individual who is licensed to practice psychotherapy. Research has shown that the most effective type of psychotherapy is cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT). The focus is to change the thinking patterns and reactions to your fears. Medications should also be considered in conjunction with psychotherapy.
